A Flight Attendant whose next scheduled flight would, if flown, cause her/him to exceed the 16-hour limitation will call crew scheduling as soon as practical. The Flight Attendant may be asked, or may elect, but will not be required, to depart on a flight estimated to land more than 16 hours after the report.
Script: "Are you willing to waive your contractual 16-hour limitation?"
When a Rest Adjustment is Required (CBA 4.C.2.a-b)
- Remove the least amount of flying and rejoin when the trip passes through base or with a deadhead.
- Reassign to alternate flying following reassignment rules.
- Release from the first day and place on AVA for any subsequent days.
-
Delay the flight with a new report. Keeping in mind, we should avoid
delays when possible.
- You MAY delay a flight in base. CBA 4.C.2.a provides solutions to accommodate the required 10 hours of actual rest.
- Be sure to attempt to contact all of the Flight Attendants impacted.
FA Concerned About Rest
If additional rest is requested due to ground transportation, hotel issues, being woken up, etc.:
"Are you fit for a report of XXXX?"
"What report time do you need to be fit?"

- Any F9 Employee
AVA Assignments (Prior to 1700 BLT Day Prior)
- Run an AVA report. Are any AVAs available to be assigned?
- Assign AVAs in Reverse Seniority order to those available.
- Trip assignment must follow Reschedule Rules.
- PAY over the original footprint of the pairing worth 00:01 credit.
- Transaction Code: ADT
-
Comment Example:
Assigned D4001:06AUG over AVA
Aggressive Assignments
- First awarded to Reserve Flight Attendants whose days of availability match the length of the trip. We can then go back and award trips that are shorter than the days of availability.
- Decisions to award a shorter trip will be based on Reserve utilization and operational needs. It is rare that a trip should be awarded that is less than one day short.
- Save Ready Reserve Assignments until all trips have been assigned.
- Transaction Code: ADD
- Comment Format:
AGG D4000:05AUG
Trip Assignments
-
Pick the longest trip (by the number of calendar days) with the most
credit.
- Note: If the call-out time requires prioritizing specific trips, assign those first.
-
Reserve Trip Assignments will be made to Flight Attendants who are
legal and available in the following order:
- First by BUCKET
- Then by LOWEST CREDIT
- Transaction Code: ADD
- Comment Format:
ADD D4000:05AUG - Assign any sick calls that come in for tomorrow for Flight Attendants.
- Movable Days are used ONLY when there is no other way to cover the trip without alteration.
Notification Calls
- Call all FAs as soon as possible to clear out the not-notified.
-
Quiet Hours in base: 2130–0630
- Courtesy calls can be made until 2300 on a day off prior to the block of RSV shifts.
Ready Reserve Assignments
- Discuss with a Coordinator and/or Supervisor how many ready RSVs should be assigned to each base.
- Contractually, the only rule is: The FA will not sit Ready RSV more than 5 times in the bid month.
-
Standard process (at Crew Scheduling's discretion):
- Select some from all buckets, 3 days or more of availability.
- Lowest credit in each bucket.
- Avoid having them sit back-to-back Ready RSV.
- NOTE: Just because they bid Aggressively for Ready RSV does not mean you should select them. Aggressive is strictly their preference. If the FA selected for Ready RSV bids a preference in AGG, award what was preferred.

Red & Redder Days
How to calculate red/redder days when a Flight Attendant is swapping a multi-day trip for a single-day trip:
-
Add up the deficit for each day the FA is
dropping and compare it to the deficit for each day
the FA is picking up after the transaction.
- If the overall net is worse on the day(s) picked up → APPROVE
- If the overall net is better on the day(s) picked up → DENY
Example: Request Approved (Swap out of 3-day, Swap into 1-day)
| Net Reserves Before | Net Reserves After | Net Reserves Before | Net Reserves After |
|---|---|---|---|
| -2 | -3 | -20 | -19 |
| -3 | -4 | ||
| -2 | -3 | ||
| TOTAL: -10 | TOTAL: -23 | TOTAL: -19 |
Example: Request Denied (Swap out of 4-day, Swap into 2-day)
| Net Reserves Before | Net Reserves After | Net Reserves Before | Net Reserves After |
|---|---|---|---|
| -4 | -5 | -4 | -5 |
| -6 | -7 | -8 | -9 |
| -7 | -8 | ||
| TOTAL: -14 |
5.L.2.K — The 2200 Rule
For purposes of Add/Swap/Trade requests, a minimum of one Calendar Day free from duty during every 7-day period will be required. Additionally, if there is not a 24-hour break in the last six (6) calendar days, the Flight Attendant must be scheduled to be released no later than 2200 on the 6th day.
- Applies to Opentime and Trip Trade requests only.
-
Does not apply to Aggressive and RSV assignments.
- However, we MAY skip over a RSV on their 6th day past 2200 when assigning trips (ADD). Add a comment as to why someone was skipped.
Reserves Picking Up (ADD/Swap/Trade) on Their Day Off Before a Block of 5 Days of RSV
| Scenario | Action |
|---|---|
| Before a block of REA with 11 hrs of rest | May APPROVE |
| Before a block of REB | DENY |
